ICTs as Tools for Addressing Gender Issues by Women and Women's Organisations in Uganda

Organization Name: WOUGNET - Women of Uganda Network

[Africa - Uganda]

WOUGNET WorldSpace Satellite Radio Program

Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organisation established in May 2000 by several women's organisations in Uganda to develop women's use of ICT tools for information sharing and to collectively address issues. WOUGNET's emphasis is directed towards email and the web, and how these technologies can be integrated with the traditional means of information exchange and dissemination for maximum outreach.
WOUGNET used GEM to evaluate its website and mailing lists. Specifically, they assessed the relevance of distributed information and the effectiveness of their information services. The GEM evaluation assisted them in identifying information needs of their constituency, and to draw attention to the challenges women and their organisations in Uganda face in making full use of the Internet.Read more

Teleworking in Malaysia

Organization Name: Mothers for Mothers (M4M)

[Asia/Pacific - Malaysia]

M4M WORK@HOME

Mothers for Mothers (M4M), formed 1998, is a network of mothers involved in women’s networking activities to promote the concept of working from home. The network believes that through ICT, women can earn an income without having to leave their homes and sacrificing their responsibilities to their families. Their evaluation aimed to understand the problems faced by women and men teleworkers, and look into how ICT can help improve lifestyles in order to enable women to cope with their multiple roles (the triple roles of women manifested in child care, housework and income-earner). M4M’s evaluation team used a combination of methodologies including home visits, focus group discussions and a questionnaire survey. M4M will use evaluation results to guide the M4M national campaign promoting telework for women to the Malaysian government and corporations as well as a basis for further project development and fundraising.Read more

Women Mayors’ Link aims to foster cooperation between women mayors and local governments and local women's networks in preparing small projects to improve the quality of life of women and children in local communities.
The main objectives of the WML and GEM evaluation were to evaluate how and to what extent ICT tools influenced the networking process at the national, regional and international levels; and the building of partnerships to foster mainstreaming of gender in local governance.Read more
